About SilverBullet

SilverBullet is built on a few beliefs about the knowledge you keep and the tools you use to work with it.

What we believe

Knowledge should outlive any app. Your knowledge belongs in formats that will stand the test of time. A SilverBullet space is a folder of markdown files, next to images, PDFs and whatever else you keep. Everything SilverBullet adds, from links to live queries, sits on top of those files. As the community puts it: the truth is in the markdown.

Your knowledge system should fit you. There’s no one right way to organize what you know. Your needs differ from your neighbour’s, and they change over time; the same goes for teams. So SilverBullet starts simple and lets you add structure, views and your own commands when you’re ready, instead of making you build a system up front.

You should control your data. You decide where your knowledge lives: on your own computer, on your own server, or with a host you trust. SilverBullet has no trackers, and no part of it requires handing your files to a third party.

How it’s made

Open source at heart, sustained by Pro. SilverBullet started in 2022 as an open source project, and SilverBullet Server is still MIT-licensed and free. SilverBullet Desktop packages the same experience as a native app; Pro licences for work use fund the development of both. Funding →
